Ten Members of the Phoenix Troop, together with three Leaders and one bouncy Boxer Dog, spent a wet and windy weekend at Eary Cushlin over the 23. – 25. October 2009.
On the Friday night we did our traditional night hike to the top of Cronk Ny Arrey Laa, at the top there was low cloud so the views were just about zero.
On Friday morning it was pouring down, so the programme was changed to suit, with mini pioneering in the house and then a swimming session at Peel Pool in the morning. In the afternoon, we travelled to the Group’s Bunkhouse, Watertrough Cottage, where the Scouts were given the challenge of lighting a fire and boiling a pint of water. They all managed this even finding some dry wood in the plantation. In the evening after tea, we did some map and compass work, before settling down to watch a movie using a projector. We finished off the night with a widegame using the extensive grounds fronting the house.
On Sunday it was dry but very windy and a decision was made to cancel the planned kayaking, instead we enjoyed a hike to Glen Maye along part of the Way of the Herring Long Distance Footpath. In the afternoon the Scouts were given a bit of free time after giving the house a good tidy, before being collected by their parents.
