Spring News

image Below is a copy of the Newsletter which is going out with this terms Subs Form

St. George’s Day

A reminder that this year’s St. George’s Day is on Sunday 13. April and this year it is taking place in Onchan. Letters are available from all Leaders and can also be downloaded from the Group Website.

Onchan Village Fair

We will again be having a Fund Raising Bottle Stall at this year’s Onchan Village Fair (set for the 5. May 2008 at the Youth & Community Centre). We are therefore looking for donations of bottles and jars for the stall. If every member of the Group is able to donate one bottle or jar (all unopened please). Then that should ensure a good profit on the day. Donations can be dropped at the Scout Hall during any meeting from now until the 2. May.

Group Fun Day

The Group is holding a Group Fun Day on Sunday 22. June 2008. This will involve a trip on the Steam Train to Castletown, with activities in Pulson Park, followed by a Barbeque afterwards. Letters will be going out nearer the time.

Scout Hall Improvements

The new lighting in the hall has now been fitted and this is a vast improvement on the old lighting. Further improvements to the Building include refurbishment of the boys toilet and painting the hall.

Group Website

The Group Website now has an active News Page. Any member can submit an item to be added to the News Page. It could be a report on an activity, information about an upcoming event, or just a Scouting Photo. Send them in to 2ndonchan@manx.net .

2007 Badges

Some members still haven’t removed their 2007 Centenary Badges. These should have been taken off uniform by the 1. January 2008. If you still have one on, please remove it as soon as possible.

Mountain Bike Camp

image A joint camp is being held for members of the Moddey Dhoo Troop and the Phoenix Troop over the weekend of the 26. - 27. April 2008, based at Watertrough Cottage. Details can be downloaded here

Email Notification

image If you are reading this you are on the Internet and probably have an email address. Most Leaders in the Group have email and email is used increasingly to send out letters (think of all the trees it saves). Group Members (and their parents too if possible) are asked to ensure that their Section Leaders have their up to date email address.

New Lighting for Scout Hall

image New lights are currently being fitted in the Hall. These are expensive 'ball proof' fittings and the high frequency fluorescent tubes will give a better quality of light than the old fittings, as well as lasting longer.

Troop Sunday Hike

The summit of Snaefell Only five Scouts took part in the Sunday Hike on the 9. March 2008, which was a little disappointing. Two Leaders and two dogs also took part. It was cold and windy, but sunny too. The route took us to the top of Snaefell, then down to the Mountain Road and up the ridge that goes towards North Barrule then down to Glen Mona and we finished at Laxey. Distance was just under 9 miles.

Scout Super Splash Success

There was success for both Cubs and Scouts at this years Scout Super Splash, held at Peel Swimming Pool on the 8. March 2008. The Snaefell Cub Scout Pack Team came second in their class and the Phoenix Troop 'B' Team came first in their class. Well done to all.
