2007 Group Camp

Around 110 members of 2nd Onchan and Onchan District Explorers attended our Group Camp at the Crossags Camp Site over the weekend of the 28. - 30. September. On the Friday Night the Cubs, Scouts and Explorers were split into mixed Patrols for the weekend and the first activity was a Night Hike to the Albert Tower. It was dark when the Patrols headed off but the almost full moon helped with viability. When they got back everyone was served soup or hot chocolate.

On Saturday morning we held a Formal Opening Ceremony for the camp then the Patrols took part in ten activity bases spread around the camp site, which took up most of the morning. Before lunch, in teams of two they spent an hour doing an orienteering course. In the afternoon, we were joined by Beaver Scouts, some who were with us just for the day and others who would be staying the night. Some of the older Scouts and Explorer Scouts spent a couple of hours kayaking up the Sulby River, while the rest of the Group spent the afternoon at Mooragh Park, where they got the chance to go on canoes, rowing boats and peddle boats and play crazy golf. We then all enjoyed a barbecue next to the beach before heading back to the Camp Site. In the evening a treasure Hunt was held around the site followed by a Camp Fire, during which an Explorer Scout was invested. a Special 100 Years Birthday Cake was bought out and the candles were blown out by one of our new Beavers and first ever female youth member. After a supper of pizza, soup and hot chocolate it was off to bed.

On Sunday morning after a short Scouts Own, it was off on the electric tram to Laxey where an hour or so was spent in the Laxey Glen Gardens. Lunch was bought in for everyone from the camp site, then it was back on the tram for the Closing Ceremony ready for parents to collect their children at 15:30.
